Blind Collaboration Pt. 1

It’s been a few years since I’ve posted on Flickr…I think 5 or so. Mainly because I don’t like the damn site, and partially because I just didn’t give a shit about sharing anything. But for good, or bad (you decide!), I’m back. Whether or not this is indicative of a triumphant return is yet to be seen. Again, I do not like the damn site! But I figure it’s high time I quit whining about it, and learn to deal.

I have felt for a long time now that I was stuck in a comfort zone that was stifling my ability to move forward. Being one of the (many) founding members of VirtuaLUG didn’t help. The main VLUG collaboration became my only driving force to build. Year after year we have churned out collaborations that only became bigger and bigger. Unfortunately one can only go so big before running out of steam and so, this year, I have bowed out of the collaboration entirely. My growth in LEGO was stumped, and I decided to take a break to go do my own thing for a while. We’ll see where that gets me.

One of the many ideas tossed around in my head has been what I have dubbed, a "Blind Collaboration". The concept is really simple on the surface. I take a month, start off with ~100 piece build (this one is about 135), build whatever the fuck I want, and hand it off to the next artist. In their hands they are able to utilize the piece in any way shape or form, without changing what was given to them, and adding the next element of the collaboration…again roughly 100 pieces, and in a month. Neither of the artists will have visibility of the new addition until after it has been handed off to them…that way there’s no pre-planning. There are no expectations, no awards to win, no one to impress. Just pure LEGO joy with some interesting twists and turns in the development of the piece(s)

Thus I present to you Pt. 1 of The Blind Collaboration.

Every round will be photographed and posted here on Flickr for your consumption. Please feel free to point, laugh, jeer, or flat-out call it shit. But enjoy the ride, whatever you do.
